After graduating from the Conservatorio Luca Marenzio in Brescia, he studied with Franco Corelli and Eugenio Fogliati, and made his stage début in 1997. Since then his international engagements have included the roles of Raimondo Lucia di Lammermoor in Mantova, St Gallen and the Teatro Comunale di Firenze, Silva in Ernani in Ravenna, Livorno and Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Sparafucile in  Rigoletto in Parma and Hong Kong, Cirillo in Fedora in Teatro alla Scala in Milano, Ferrando in Il trovatore in Monte-Carlo and Lisbon, Conte di Walter in Luisa Miller in Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, Don Bartolo in Le nozze di Figaro in St.Gallen, Montpellier, Lille and at theThéâtre des Champs-Élysées, as well as Oroveso in Norma in Modena, Ferrara and Denmark. Paolo Battaglia also appeared at the Glyndebourne Opera Festival and with Glyndebourne on Tour as Colline in  La bohème, Pistola in Falstaff and Seneca in L’incoronazione di Poppea, at both Arena and Teatro Filarmonico in Verona for the roles of  Il re in Aida, Don Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Timur in Turandot. He sang Publio in La clemenza di Tito and Caronte in Monteverdi’s Orfeo with the Bayerische Rundfunk and Colline in St Gallen, Macerata, Teatro alla Scala and Teatro Massimo di Palermo.  Most recent engagements have included Il Trittico at the Opéra de Lyon, Montano in Otello  with Maestro Muti in Chicago and New York, Il re in Aida at the Opéra de Toulon, Brander in La damnation de Faust at the Teatro Regio di Parma, Frère Laurent in Romeo et Juliette at the Opera Ireland, as well as Comte Des Grieux in Manon at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Padre Guardiano in  La forza del destino at Teatro Colon Buenos Aires, Méphistophélès in Faust at Israeli  Opera Tel Aviv, Bartolo in Le nozze di  Figaro at Oper Köln.
